I "accidentally" went to a lecture by Dr. Esselstyn at Case Wester Reserve University in Cleveland. It was a 1 hour salespitch for his food plan. I am not usually one to believe such spiels. But the doctor was so earnest. The point was repeatedthat HEART DISEASE is not INEVITABLE, it is a creation of the modern WESTERN DIET. Since ALL of my relatives on BOTH sides have had bypasses, strokes, heart attacks, and deaths from cardiovascular disease, and I am 58, I was just assuming I would get a bypass too someday.Dr. E. convinced me I didn't have to. I have been on his plan "imperfectly" for 6 months and my cholesterol went from 210 to 138, which I just had measured. It was 178 after 3 months, and I was worrying that I maight stop there since I ate a lot ofjunk for Halloween. But it has kept going down! I eat some chicken breast and the occassional steak or hamburger. I do not follow all his reccommendations for low fat. I eat a lot of peanut butter on REALLY whole wheat sandwiches! I am still overweight and have type II diabetes issues. So even being a non-exercising, overeating freak, I am still down at 138!I WILL ADMIT I AM ALSO ON A STATIN, but I don't think any statin can get you to 138. I am getting a few books to share withmy siblings. I don't know if they will catch on. But it really is a miracle! Dr. Esselystyn is a wonderful doctor. And I am now sure what he says is true. It worked for me.
