One of the best Threshold releases ever
Out of all the Threshold albums that have been reviewed, "Extinct Instinct" seems to have been overlooked the most. Why? I consider this album to be the "hidden gem" in the Threshold archives. Damien Wilson came back to do the vocals for this album - and he did a stellar performance. There are alot of fans who will say that "Wounded Land" was better, but I disagree. As good as WL was, this album is ten times better. The album is a perfect combination of "Phsycedelicatessen" and there debut. On "Wounded Land" the guitars arn't as heavy. But on this one guitarists Karl Groom and Nick Midson are responsible for cranking out some heavy riffs. Damien's vocals are soaring, andemotional. My favorite from this disc was "Eat the Unicorn". This has to be the most progresive Threshold song ever. It's heavy, it's melodic, and gives you a dark beutiful feeling inside. They completley just ignored the rules and went for it. That is what I love about this album, it just keeps suprising you. If any Threshold fan does not have this one yet - Extinct Instinct is a must. That's saying alot, because all of their albums contain some of the best music the prog world has to offer. I'm sorry if other fans don't feel the same way about this disc, but I just wanted to give it the attention that I thought it deserved.
