Meanigful repetition!
この本、いわゆる「出る単」タイプではない。故に、トーイックで何点以上取りたいとか英検１級に受かりたいとかそういう目的ではない。内容的には、単語を語源から覚えようとかいった感じで、穴埋め問題を繰り返すことによってボキャブラリーを増やそうというものである。 私がこの本に☆５つを挙げたいのは、「単語の意味を覚えるのではなく、単語のイデアを身につける」という考えと「意味のある繰り返しこそ、単語を増やす近道」というこの本の目的意識に対してである。洋書ボキャビルに取り組む人は、単語の意味を日本語で書いてある単語集にそろそろ飽きている、という人たちだろう（そもそも、そこまで到達するだけでも大変なことなのだが）。私は「agnostic」を辞書で調べた時「不可知論者」と出てきて「不可知論者って何？」と思ったその時、英語で書かれた説明の方が圧倒的にクリアにわかることに気づいて、洋書ボキャビルに切り替わった。「単語の意味を丸暗記するなんてナンセンス」と思って初めて、この本を手にしよう。そこまでなっていなければ無理はしなくて良いと思う。「その時」がきた時が、本書の出番。飛躍的に自信が着くことは間違いない。
